Poem from July 31, 2004

Something New

I love to have a brand new shirt
A brand new pair of shoes
It's like a breath of morning sun
Or laughter in the news

When raindrops touch the windowpane
And wash the dirt away
A newborn baby's sweet perfume
And moonlight in the day

Like winter snow that slowly falls
And fills the frigid skies
The gleaming glow of brilliant white
That sparkles in my eyes

A new hello with every smile
A gesture with a wink
A brand new song to stir the soul
The first sip of a drink

A crisp and new one-dollar bill
And fresh baked apple pie
The morning wind that wakes me up
A rainbow in the sky

A brand new book to fill my mind
And poem filled with rhyme
A coat of paint upon a house
A brand new hill to climb

The first time love that comes from joy
To know that hope is true
The wonder of a brand new faith
Now I am something new

Poem From October 9, 2004

Wishes

I wish that everyone had food
That hunger would subside
I wish that everyone would know
The joy of love inside

I wish the sun and moon and stars
Would always shine so bright
And darkness would embrace the day
And chase away the night

I wish that sadness would refrain
And laughter would abound
That peace would overflow each heart
Like music drenched with sound

I wish that time would never wane
That lives weren't
 torn apart
And joy would grow with every beat
Inside the human heart

I wish the truth of God's great love
Would penetrate the Earth
That stubborn hearts would call His name
And find their second birth

I wish that every soul knew hope
The grace known by so few
If you would put your faith in Him
You'd make my wish come true

My Stance

I'm going to take my stance today

Like every other day

I won't give in to vicious lies

I'll take my time to pray

There is no truth in emptiness

And only good is good

It doesn't matter what seems right

If love's misunderstood

For light and dark can't intermix

And hate brings only pain

Peace and strife are opposites

And war can be insane

The world will take your life away

And say you are alive

They say that darkness brings you life

But you cannot survive

The only truth that you can know

Comes from the Lord above

He is the one and only way

His heart is steeped with love

I'm going to take my stance today

Like every other day

There is no other path to take

There is no other way

Poem from August 7, 2004

Lately

Lately I can hardly pray
The words won't come to me
I try so hard to be profound
But I can only plea

Lately I do not know why
My questions fill my head
The answers never seem to come
I wonder what's ahead

Lately I am tickled pink
My laughter is my song
I hope I don't disturb my friends
I'm happy is that wrong

Lately I am very neat
I guess that's all the time
My words are lined up in a row
My thoughts are like a rhyme

Lately I am with my friends
I'm usually alone
I'm glad to have a hand to hold
Instead of an old stone

Lately all I do is talk
And talk and talk and talk
I cannot do two things at once
So I can hardly walk

Lately I can see a smile
On every face I see
I hope they see me smiling back
Cause lately this is me

Your Love

Is higher than the highest height

So far above the sky

The moon and stars can't touch your love

It's just so very high

Is deeper than the deepest sea

No one can search so deep

Beyond the depths of human know

Not even deep in sleep

Is bigger than the universe

And larger than the night

Your love is vast so great indeed

It's just too big for sight

Is brighter than the shining sun

The stars can't stake their claim

The glory of your light of love

Brings honor to Your name

Is farther than the longest mile

Where light can't touch the dark

So far outside the realm of man

Where there's no life nor spark

Is precious more than any gem

On earth or up above

There's nothing we could know or see

That's greater than Your love

Poem From August 14, 2004

I Wonder

I wonder who can make me smile
Through morning noon and night
And does the darkness always run
When glory fills with light

I wonder what is hiding in
The depth inside the sea
It's like the places far within
The deepest part of me

I wonder where with wind and rain
Began their dance in time
And just how many silly words
Can form a simple rhyme

I wonder when the Earth and sky
Embraced within their kiss
I know the mercy of the Lord
Is so much more than this

I wonder just how many stars
Are dancing in the sky
How many questions fill my mind
I'd like to know just why

I wonder why the love of God
Can cover all my sins
His grace can answer all my doubt
Right where wonder begins

Poem From September 4, 2004

No Other Way

I tried to find another way
I checked my left and right
I looked into a different world
But couldn't find my sight

I started down the flowing path
This road was wide and long
And everyone was walking there
But something seemed so wrong

I thought that I could trust myself
I'd travel on my own
But as I filled my heart with me
I found I was alone

I tried to do some splendid things
I worked so hard with grace
But as I toiled through my life
I just felt out of place

I even thought if knowledge came
I'd find the way to go
But in the end I only saw
That I just did not know

And then one day I just gave in
Surrendering my heart
I found when I was at my end
This was my place to start

I finally realized the truth
As I knelt down to pray
He paved the path of faith through grace
There is no other way

Still Think of You

I saw you on my brother's face
He had a silly grin
And in the mirror every day
I watch you shave my chin

I told a funny story when
And felt like you were here
Those stories always make me laugh
Like you are very near

You always seem to come to me
When I'm asleep at night
I sometimes wish my dreams came true
So I could hold you tight

My feelings for you never change
They're stronger every day
You'd think the hands of ticking time
Would take my thoughts away

I sometimes wonder where you are
You should be here with us
But there was just a different plan
That we just have to trust

And every picture in my mind
Is like a dream come true
For joy can only fill me up
When I still think of you

More Than This

A rose without her jagged thorns
Presented with a glance
A night and day with serenades
The joy of true romance

With red and pink and sometimes white
The colors of the day
The shimmer of a twinkling eye
A star to light the way

The flowing scent of sweet perfume
A hand to hold so tight
A whisper in the deepest dawn
And laughter in the night

A simple melody and rhyme
A word of peace to share
The moment when you realize
That someone else is near

A sweet embrace between two friends
A gentle hug and kiss
A sigh of joy and thought of hope
But love is more than this

Not Alone

You wake me in the morning light

And breathe your breath in me

Before my feet can touch the floor

You guide me where to be

Your hand is gentle on my back

As I walk down the hall

You stand beside me at the sink

And help me stand up tall

I know you hear the words I pray

And listen to my pleas

You whisper thoughts into my soul

When I am on my knees

You capture every word I say

And bottle all my tears

You gather all my memories

As days turn into years

You live within my every breath

Like wind inside the rain

You understand my joy and peace

And share my fear and pain

My life is yours to live with love

I’m never on my own

You give me everything I need

And I am not alone

Under God

With liberty we wave our flag

Beneath the sun we stand

It’s good to raise our heads up high

For justice fills our land

A people huddled close as one

To reach a higher call

The masses seek to fill their dreams

A promise made to all

We welcome strangers everywhere

And share the life we live

We always lend a helping hand

And find new ways to give

Our stars and stripes are clear to see

They stand for all that's true

The evidence is in our hearts

With red and white and blue

We stand up tall to make our pledge

With freedom as our song

A nation fervent under God

Where hope and strength belong

His hands

His mother held His tiny hands
As every mother does
And childhood friends clung to His hands
Not knowing who He was

He used His hands to craft and hone
His workmanship was true
A carpenter when time began
His hands formed me and you

He used His hands to call them near
They left their homes behind
His hands could cure the lame and sick
And even heal the blind

His hands could make the tightest fist
Or grasp the hope of love
And as He holds a sinner's hand
It fits just like a glove

They nailed His hands upon a tree
His blood spilled from His hands
Like flowers bathed with morning dew
Like raindrops in the sands

His hands made query touch His side
He finished all demands
No one can take me from His love

I'm safe inside His hands

See

I see you watching every day

But do you really see

Your eyes our peering through the night

But are you truly free

You gaze into the shining sun

And revel in the dawn

But are you blinded by the light

Is all your passion gone

I know that You have seen the day

Surrounded by the light

But why are you still living there

Beneath the cloak of night

Your eyes are moving back and forth

Like starlight in the sky

But when I look into your eyes

I see the question why

When will you truly see the truth

Your place for you to be

The light of Heaven brings new life

If only you can see

Foreigner

I'm standing in a the thickest crowd

With everyone around

Each person has their place on Earth

But mine cannot be found

We all have eyes and legs and hands

And speak with love to share

But something seems so strange to me

It isn't very clear

Because I know I am the same

But differences are true

I know that I have something else

I'm knit so close to You

I hadn't noticed how I was

Until somebody said

That I was like a foreigner

From somewhere else instead

My life was changed some years ago

It's written on my face

And now I don't fit in so well

It's like I'm out of place

We look so similar indeed

But I am not my own

My heart was changed with Mercy's touch

And Heaven is my home

Go To Jesus

If you're lost and can't be found
Or if you're tired and weak
If your burden weighs you down
Or if you cannot speak

If your eyes can't see the light
Or if you're all alone
If you're paralyzed with fright
Or shaken to the bone

If you're at your bitter end
Or if you cannot sleep
If you need a faithful friend
Or have no hope to keep

If you're deep in life's despair
Or don't know who you are
If you think that no one cares
Or if you're lost from far

If you're a king or just a man
Or if you've lost your way
If you cannot or if you can
Or if you're night is day

If you're on the edge of death
Or if you're life is here
If you cannot take a breath
Or if you live in fear

If you face the tip of a knife
Or if you're life is new
If you long to find true life

You know what you must do

I Can See

They never made much sense before

The words I tried to read

The fables that I thought I knew

Could never meet my need

Like swirling moments on a page

The power wasn't there

I'd try to see what filled each page

But never really cared

But then one day my mind could touch

The moment in each day

Each word was like a life to live

I knew I found the way

Like lightning striking in the night

My heart was charged with grace

And all the truths of heaven's hope

Were written on my face

My heart and mind were one with joy

Like water on the shore

I hungered for the truth of life

And searched to find some more

I knew that what I found was true

For love is always right

The shroud was lifted from my eyes

And I can see the light

It's Time

It's time to take a giant step

In something very small

A leap that takes your breath away

But there's no risk to fall

You need to take a look around

And see with open eyes

There is no other place to be

Don't listen to the lies

Your heart is aching from the pain

Of worry in your fear

But if you know this simple truth

The path will be so clear

The hands of time can't lift you up

You cannot sit and wait

This is the moment you must chose

Don't cling to chains of fate

Your faith is like a precious gift

A vision with a must

Just open up your heart to love

This your chance to trust

So cast your worries to the wind

And sing out loud with rhyme

Let heaven hold the life you live

I know you know it's time

I Can Breathe Again

Lifted from the deep in me

Your light is on my face

I feel your touch upon my lips

Within Your strong embrace

The shadows that consumed my heart

Have run away in fear

Because I know I’m not alone

I feel Your presence near

Between my churning ebb and flow

I touch Your heart in me

The chains that used to hold my soul

Are broken and I’m free

You brought me here to bring me life

I’m on Your steady ground

And if you look inside my heart

No empty can be found

For love has filled me up with grace

And time has lost her wound

The promise of a brand new life

Is truth that I assume

I’ve never felt this way before

Your treasure is my end

You raise me up beyond my dreams

And I can breathe again

Poem from August 28, 2004

Without You

Like twinkling stars without a night
Like sun without the day
Like happiness without a smile
Or dreams without a way

Like ocean tides without a shore
Like day without the noon
Like trees that do not reach the sky
Or buds without a bloom

Like ticking clocks without their hands
Like rivers without land
Like sweet perfume without a scent
Or shoreline without sand

Like symphonies without a note
Like stars without a stage
Like poems read without a rhyme
Or books without a page

Like flowing wine without a cup
Like food without it's taste
Like love without a friend to share
Or hurry without haste

Like rainbows without indigo
Like colors without hue
Like me without a hope inside
I'm nothing without you

Poem From September 11, 2004

Who Is A Patriot

A student voting for a goal

And working toward a dream

A teacher guiding tiny souls

To know what freedom means

A man that keeps his head held high

And lives with liberty

A woman sharing all she has

With people deep in need

An artist sculpting with his hands

The beauty he conceives

A preacher speaking words out loud

To share what he believes

A congressman who listens close

And hears what people say

A child that lives with peace and joy

Who's not afraid to play

A President who stands for truth

With people at his side

A veteran who fought for peace

And stands up tall with pride

A mother praying through the night

Upon a weary knee

A soldier fighting in the field

To keep our nation free

Along The Way

The path of time is ours to live

A gift of life to share

A winding road of twists and turns

To lead us to somewhere

Sometimes this path is very steep

With struggles all the way

Sometimes each step is like a star

To guide us through the day

Each stride is made with hopeful eyes

To see where we may go

The thrill of walking to each place

Is filled with joy unknown

And as we measure every step

That led us to each place

We think of how we made this trek

With passion and with grace

The road was special in itself

But never filled the day

Be cause the treasures are the lives

We met along the way

Poem From September 18, 2004

What Was It Like

What was it like to see Him there
Like any other man
To dip Him in the river deep
And hold Him by the hand

What was it like to hear His voice
Say come and follow Me
Were you afraid to heed the call
Or did you run to see

What was it like to touch His cloak
And feel His healing hand
Did hope and joy run through your veins
Like water runs through sand

What was it like to hear His words
With no one else around
It must have been a symphony
With passion filled with sound

What was it like to see this man
Confound the ones who knew
Of all the sages of the time
He chose to be with you

What was it like to watch them come
And take Him to His death
I thought of what it must be like
And couldn't catch my breath

What was it like to see His face
When you denied His name
I know a bit of what that’s like
Because of my own shame

What was it like to watch Him die
And suffer deep with pain
To see the life flow out of Him
To watch Him take our blame

What was it like to touch His scars
Where hammers sent each spike
To see Him there alive and well
I wonder what it's like

Poem From September 25, 2004

Everything We See

With words of life the world began
Through power and through love
He made the land and sea and shore
And everything above

The motion of the earth in flight
Began her dance through time
And light made vision come alive
Like music filled with rhyme

The stars and moon and planets sang
As mountains grew to height
His glory filled the universe
Through morning noon and night

The herb and vine began to grow
As forests touched the sky
The creatures walked and swam in peace
And fowl learned to fly

The garden filled with trees and fruit
And food for everything
The gentle breeze embraced the land
As life began to sing

His greatest treasure came alive
From water earth and sand
A man and wife to give His love
And live within His hand

He did not need to make this place
He gave it all for free
His love and grace are evident
In everything we see

Angel's Breath  11/28/04

Underneath the winter sky
As sunshine lights my face
The crystal snowflakes shine so bright
Like diamonds in their place

I try to count them one by one
And catch them in my hand
But as the snowfall shimmers down
It's countless like the sand

My footprints slowly take their form
Then disappear in time
The motion of the dancing scene
Is filled with nature's rhyme

The effervescence of the chill
Surrounds me deep in white
It's like the gentle candle glow
That guides me through the night

It's like the old has been made new
And everything is mine
And I can see the angels breathe
Like Heaven's hidden sign

Let  01/22/05
Let the death flow out of me
And let my anxious worries flee
Let my anger run away
And let my nighttime find the day
Let these troubles leave my mind
And let the shadows leave me blind
Let my sorrows turn to grace
And let my terrors lose their place
Let my words be few and small
And let me hear You when You call
Let my heart-beat pound in time
And let my thoughts be filled with rhyme
Let my hands be clean and pure
And let my simple faith endure
Let me be a man of peace
And let my giving never cease
Let Your word consume my soul
And let Your mercy make me whole
Let my lying speak the truth
And let my aging find its youth
 Let forgiveness wash me clean
And let me rip between each seam
Let me touch Your nail scarred hands
And let me know the hope You’ve planned
Let me lose myself each day
And let me know You as I pray
Let me live with no regret
And let me always let You let

The Wrong Way

Around the corner down the hall

You'll find the place to go

Keep looking close it's straight ahead

It's over here I know

It might be up or maybe down

Or somewhere in between

I know this is the proper way

You're following your dream

Just travel east then take a left

Or maybe it's a right

The signs will point you to the dark

So travel through the night

It's one more step from north to south

I know which way to go

Please follow me I'll lead you home

And then enjoy the show

The road is wide and filled with glee

I made the path myself

The arrow points you right to peace

At least that's what I sell

So take my hand and shut your mouth

Don't listen to that voice

That pesky tug inside your heart

There is no other choice

And as you travel down this road

You'll see the end in sight

But never look the other way

He'll blind you with that light

Springtime

I feel the fresh wind on my face

And sunshine on my lips

The breeze is like a whispered song

That fills me with a kiss

I love to see the earth alive

With flowers and with dew

The morning scent of growing life

Makes everything seem new

The winter fades away from mind

And green has changed the white

I revel in the growing day

And dance below the light

The rains begin to sing their song

And touch the earth with peace

The evidence of living things

Has found it's true release

This is the time to make things new

So darkness fades away

The wonder of the melody

Of springtime in the day

My Promised Land

Beneath the shadow of Your wing
I dwell within your grace
I hear You whisper to my soul
And kiss me on my face

Your word runs deep within my soul
The lifeblood in my veins
Forgiveness overcomes my mind
Your mercy never wanes

I know the truth that brings me life
And praise lives in my song
I linger here to hear your voice
This is where I belong

My place beneath the shining sun
Inside His time and will
There is no place I'd rather be
I'm on the highest hill

And though I still live in this flesh
My heart still beats in time
I'm covered head to toe with me
And troubles fill my rhyme

I never have to leave this place
Nor sink beneath the sand
For He forgave my sin and shame

This is my promised land

My Questions

Who will hold me very tight
When I can't sleep at night
Who will wipe away my tears
When I am filled with fears

Who will carry me back home
When I am all alone
Who will lift my head to drink
When I can hardly think

Who will hold my shaking hand
When I'm on sinking sand
Who will teach me how to pray
When I can't find my way

Who will be my closest friend
When I have met my end
Who will be my hiding place
When I can't show my face

Who will save me from the storm
When I can only mourn
Who will be my soothing dawn
When all my hope is gone

Who will give me life and breath
When I am close to death
Who will love me through and through

My questions ends with You

How To Pray

Do I stand up straight and tall
Or do I touch the ground
Do I yell out very loud
Or barely make a sound

Should I ask a friend to help
Or pray when I'm alone
Should I find an open space
Or pray inside my home

Do I wait until the dark
Or call you in the light
Do I open up my eyes
Or close them very tight

Should I use a microphone
Or whisper in the wind
Should I start right where I end
Or end where I begin

Do I hold my hands so meek
Or stretch my arms out wide
Do I run and dance and sing
Or find my place to hide

Should I sit and wait a while
Or try to find my way
Should I pray with all my heart

I know just how to pray

I know just how to pray

Lifted

It's like I'm floating in the sky
Above the world below
My wings have brought me to a height
I never thought I'd know

Beyond the highest mountaintop
Where whispers float away
Where sunshine glistens in my eyes
And I can see the day

My passions meet with love and joy
Like words within a song
My heart is pounding in my chest
And all my fear is gone

I won't forget from where I came
The deepest darkest sea
The valley of my broken heart
Is still a part of me

But now I'm lifted from my dreams
And I can see the way
The ups and downs that fill my life
Are evidence of faith

And even if I find myself
Back on the earth below
I’ll never turn away from love

I'll never let love go

Bring Me Back

Bring me back to days gone by

When I was first made new

When all I did was sing out loud

And marvel over You

When all my dreams were filled with hope

And I was on my knees

When all Your words were like a gift

I knew You heard my pleas

I'd wake with praises on my lips

And wonder in my mind

I'd do my best to love the world

And struggle to be kind

My words were filled with life and peace

And I was Yours to give

My laughter filled the house and halls

I worshiped you to live

Bring me back to youthful times

When I would sing and dance

I knew that every breath I took

Was never just by chance

Just like a gift to share with love

Or treasure without lack

I want to know that place again

Oh won't You bring me back

For Free

As I sat to write each card

With zeal in my heart

I tried to write with all my soul

But had no place to start

I was not sure just what to say

To tell the joy in me

The standard greetings that I share

Could not convey my glee

For I could tell about my life

And how the year has been

How love is living in my heart

And I am blessed with friends

But that is not the mystery

The joy of hope untold

I need to share what's deep in me

More dear to me than gold

For I am not alone inside

I have a joy to share

The presence of the hope in me

Is always very near

For on that night so long ago

When starlight filled the sky

The promise of our God with us

Was kept within a cry

A baby born in Bethlehem

Was more than gifts to give

He was and is the hope of life

Our only chance to live

So as I write each word I have

I need for you to see

That love and life and grace and peace

Are yours to take for free

Are yours to take for free

More Than This

A smile on a stranger's face

And glances with a wink

A soothing cup of sweet delight

With cocoa for a drink

An evergreen with glowing lights

And ornaments galore

A banister embraced with green

And holly on the door

A wreath to welcome friends with glee

And cards to send with love

A gentle kiss upon a cheek

And starlight from above

A candle lit to fill the night

A stocking hung with care

A decoration on the hearth

With presents gathered near

These things can be so wonderful

Each memory come true

The signs of joy that come alive

And seem to always do

As each tradition marks the day

And we can feel the bliss

Don't ever let your heart forget

There's so much more than this

When

When I'm a shadow in the dark

You shine your light on me

When I am drowning in my grief

You save me from my sea

When I am reaching for some help

You stretch to take my hand

When I am sinking by the shore

You pull me from the sand

When I can't see to find my way

You point which way to go

When I can't think of what to say

You always seem to know

When I am all alone inside

You hold me very tight

When all my world is shades of gray

You make it black and white

When I am laughing in the wind

You laugh out loud with me

When I can't sing another line

You sing to make me free

When I can't take another step

You drag me to the end

When I am longing for some love

You are my greatest friend

Oh My Soul (Psalm 103)

Praise the Lord oh my soul

Give praise to God above

I won't forget the hope He gives

I'll flourish in His love

He graciously forgives my sins

And heals me with His hand

His mercy is my guiding path

His will is my command

He pulled me from the darkest pit

Redeeming me with grace

He crowned me with His word of life

And kissed me on the face

He satisfies with only good

And heals me with a wing

Like eagles rising in the dawn

His joy is mine to sing

So slow to anger deep with grace

Compassionate and true

The gentle mercies of the Lord

Have made me ever new

As far as east is from the west

My sins are torn apart

As High Heaven floats from Earth

His love has filled my heart

And like a father with His child

He knows our every way

And though our lives will fade in time

He leads us to the day

His throne of mercy has no end

Oh praise him everyone

With angels and the multitude

Give praises to the One

Everlasting to unending

His love has made me whole

Everywhere in His dominion

Praise the Lord oh my soul
